The Sound Studio HowTo/Guide

The sound studio is used for producting sound for TV, tapes, CDs, the Foyer, and the Parents Room in the Y&C.

There are 2 desks, which are joined together, a Spirit 8/24, which contains the band channels, the vocal channels, the preach mics, and various returns from the TV studio, CD, and Pro Tools. There is also a Soundcraft 328XD (a digital desk) which is the master desk, and contains the drum kit, chior, and FoH sends.

The Spirit desk sends its groups to the stereo inputs of the 328XD, which are then routed to 2 stereo groups, one for the band, and one for the vocals, and preach mics. The 2 other stereo groups are for the Kit, and Choir.

From the 328XD, we use the mix outputs to feed a compressor, which is then fed to a distribution amplifier (which is a proper splitter, with individual level controls). From the DA (distribution amp), we then feed the Beta/DVcam (recording for TV), the cassette player (for audio tapes), the VHS/Speakers in the TV room (backup recording, and their monitors), a return to the 328XD so we can listen to what we're actually sending to these places, and finally, the Foyer of the main building, and the Parents Room in the Y&C. All of theese sends (except the Foyer and Parents Room) are in stereo.

We also record several channels, plus a mix to a Pro Tools LE rig, which has 8 analog inputs (taken from the Spirit Desk), 8 digital inputs (the first 8 channels of the 328XD), and an SP/DIF (stereo mix / group), also taken from the 328XD. This can be used for recording new songs on a Wednesday night, correcting the worship on the DVcam tapes, and for making the CD of the preach.
